Piper’s Cap

Free, Quick and Easy Crochet Pattern.

The Piper’s Cap is a quick and easy pattern perfect for advanced beginner crocheters.

The pattern uses basic stitches such as, double crochet, single crochet, front post single crochet, half double crochet and slip stitches.

If you are a beginner, and would like to try some of these stitches, I encourage you to try this pattern.

The basic pattern here is for a size medium. If you would like more details, or a pdf printable pattern, you can purchase the full pattern by following the links. The full pattern has 5 different size gauges and measurements to help you find your perfect fit. It also has photos and extra notes to help you along the way. The pattern is for the base of this cap; you are free to use your imagination and decorate it how you please. In the picture, I added a simple crochet flower and some steampunk decorations.

Materials

  • Yarn: Porta Craft Recycled (AU), Premier Canyon Colors (US) (Super Bulky/Chunky)

  • 6.5mm Crochet hook

  • Stitch markers

  • Scissors

  • Tapestry needle

 

Medium 6.5mm hook

10cm x 10cm = 10.5 dc x 5.5 Rows.

 Round 6 (60 dc) gauge = 57.14cm, will fit head size 56-58cm

  

Pattern Instructions

Preliminary Step                                                                                     

Ch 4, sl into first ch to make a ring.

 

Round 1.

ch 2, 12 dc into ring, sl into first dc (12 dc)

 

Round 2.

ch 2, 2 dc in each st around, sl into first dc (24 dc)

 

Round 3.

ch 2, *dc, dc inc* rep around, sl into first dc (36 dc)

 

Round 4.

ch 2, *dc in next 2 sts, dc inc* rep around, sl into first dc (48 dc)

 

Round 5.

ch 2, *dc in next 3 sts, dc inc* rep around, sl into first dc (60 dc)

 

Rounds 6 – 11.

ch 2, dc in each st around, sl into first dc (60 dc)

Note: Try your cap on as you go, you may need to stop after round 10.

 

Round 12.

ch 1, fpsc around each st, sl into ch 1 (60 fpsc)

 

Round 13.

ch 1, sc in each st from Round 11, sl into first sc (60 sc)

 

Round 14.

ch 1, fpsc around each st, sl into ch 1 (60 fpsc)

 

Brim

Work the brim with 2 strands of yarn

Work the brim into Round 13 before working one final round of sc. This will cover a total of 22 sts. You may crochet this part with a ½ size smaller hook if you choose to, however, it’s not essential.

Attach 2 strands of yarn to the 20st st of Round 13 do not ch 1, sc into next st, sc inc, *hdc, hdc inc* rep 4 times total, *hdc inc, hdc* rep 4 times total, sc inc, sc, sl Fasten off.

 

Round 15

Go back to where you left off on Round 13 with one strand of yarn

ch 1, sc in each st around from Round 13, including the brim (70 sc). Fasten off.

Cap Decorations

Decorate Your Cap

Decorate your cap however you see fit. Be as inventive as you want. I add some steampunk decals by sewing them on with thread.
